Army Child, Youth & School Services is proud to announce that all School-Age and Youth Programs are committed to participate in the Active Lifestyle Award Program. School-Age and Youth Programs across the Army are working towards the common goal of becoming Active Lifestyle Model Programs.

For School-Age Care, Youth Program, or Youth Sports & Fitness Directors facilitating group participation, register at www.presidentschallenge.org.

The President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and Army Child, Youth and School Services (CYS Services) have joined forces to help military children and youth live healthier, more active lives while raising awareness of the benefits of physical activity and healthy habits. This partnership enables Army CYS Services to offer the following two initiatives Army-wide:
The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award

Reach your goal and receive exciting awards! The Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA) is a program that shows you how to make and keep a commitment to staying active. The PALA Program is designed for children, ages 6 and older, youth and adults. You can take part in the PALA Program either individually, or in a group with friends or Family in your School-Age Care or Youth Program. In the PALA Program, you choose an activity you enjoy and set your own pace. The PALA Program is especially beneficial if you are not already active on a regular basis.
  • Children and youth, ages 17 and younger: In order to earn an award, you should be engaged in a physical activity for at least:
    • 60 minutes a day
    • 5 days a week
    • 6-8 weeks
  • Adult CYS Services staff, parents and guardians: In order to earn an award, you should be engaged in physical activity for at least:
    • 30 minutes a day
    • 5 days a week
    • 6-8 weeks
  • You can supplement the required daily physical activities with walking. Use a pedometer to track your daily progress. The following number of steps are required:
    • Girls 6-17: at least 11,000 steps
    • Boys 6-17: at least 13,000 steps
    • Adults 18 or older: at least 8,500 steps
  • To track and document your activities, log on to: www.presidentschallenge.org
  • Record your progress online as often as you want, in increments as short as 5 minutes
  • You may also log your programs in the Get Fit, Be Strong Activity Ledger first and then log your progress online later
  • Once you reach your goal, exciting awards await you! Collect your award from your garrison School-Age, Youth Program or Sports & Fitness Director.


The Presidential Champions Program

Presidential Champions is a Program that helps you make and keep a commitment to staying active. The Presidential Champions Program is designed for children, ages 6 and older, youth and adults. You can take part in the Presidential Champions eitherindividually, or in a group with friends or Family in your School-Age and Youth Program.

In the Presidential Champions Program, you choose an activity you enjoy, and earn points by keeping track how much energy you burn while engaged in the activity.

  • Children and youth, ages 17 and younger: In order to earn an award, you should be engaged in a physical activity for at least:

    • 30 minutes a day
    • 5 days a week
  • To track and document your activities, log on to: www.presidentschallenge.org
    • Record your progress online as often as you want, in increments as short as 5 minutes
    • You can only log time for activities you have completed. You can also enter past activities, up to 14 days.
  • Once you reach the required amounts of points, you may collect your award from your garrison School-Age, Youth Program or Sports & Fitness Director. The awards consist of:
    • Bronze Award – 40,000 points or more
    • Silver Award – 90,000 points or more
    • Gold Award – 100,000 points or more
